For my own peace of mind help me clear something up. My MOS is 09S (Officer candidate),I leave for basic on June 25th and althouh I am sure it will be worked out when I get to Ft. Pickett I am curious...what is my rank? I was told by my recruiter that after I graduate college (just a couple of weeks ago) I am "candidate" however the Ssgt. in charge of my RSP unit said that I am a Specialist. Just wondering if anyone can provide any insight since officer candidates are paid more!:D

Thanks for the help!

Once you're formally attached to the OCS detachment, you'll be a candidate, and get administratively marked for pay grade E6. You're not a staff sergeant, you're an officer candidate with pay grade E6. Depending on when you graduate Basic and when OCS formally starts, you may have a few drill weekends as a SPC/E4.

On a related note, if I am now an E7 will I actually lose pay going to OCS?

No. The "safe pay" provision in the pay regulations means that you'll never lose pay in a voluntary, positive change of status. If you go to OCS, you'll maintain your higher pay grade.

How come in the NG Commissioning Programs Applican't Packet it says that 'Soldiers will wear the OCS insignia upon completion of basic training' if we really can't wear it?

Where does a WOC fit in the picture? I was boarded and appointed to WOC, and then transfered to my duty assignment. Where I am working as the "Chief". The question I have even though I am getting paid as an E-5, does the WOC Rank superceed the pay grade?

You should be pay grade E6, unless there's something else going on here that I'm missing. Do you work full-time for the Guard in any status?

Appointment to WOC is paygrade E-5, unless you held a rank higher than E-5, then you hold the rank you held prior to appointment.

NGR 600-101, paragraph 2-11c. "Applicants for warrant officer candidate status not having attained the enlisted grade established by the DA MOS proponent must be appointed to pay grade E-5 ..."

It's amazing what I can learn when I check the regulation.

What are O.C.S. candidates called while at work (not in O.C.S.)?

I am working AGR for a little bit and my recruiter said I can wear OCS rank since that is what I enlisted for, but i'm not sure how others should address me? I honestly don't care what they call me, but others might. :P

You are either sir or something like candidate _______. I was taught that officer candidates were due the same respect that an officer has.
