am a former Marine who intends to enlist in the Guard. I have spoken with several recruiters in Texas. I understand I’d be an E-5 and 11B qualified. There is a need for a waiver, but it seems minor as Texas awarded the waiver. I was even scheduled for MEPS.

The only problem is my catalyst to join is to deploy to OIF/OEF.

Texas obviously has been redirected to the border. I contacted anyone and everyone I thought might know, and found information from a Sergeant Major at NGB whom referred me to either Minnesota or Wisconsin as having pending deploying Guard units. Now, I certainly do not intend to discount stateside or border service as both are equally as meritorious or makes claim of grandeur, but I certainly feel as if I can contribute and feel deeply compelled to pursue this endeavor.

The challenge comes with finding a unit with marching orders and facilitating the logistics as I have not joined as of and am geographically in another state. I am requesting any assistance that you may be able to provide. I appreciate any effort you may be able to expend in assistance.

1. Are there any infantry units (or those that take 11B) deploying?
2. When?
3. Can I join and Texas and transfer? w/o fear of redirection to border or holding?
4. How do the logistics work?
5. Any other suggestions, ideas,etc?

I can understand the dilemma ARNG have at the moment. No ability to guarantee potential recruits wont go and hard charging ones will!

How about in Illinois. I would consider KY, MO, IN as well within a reasonable drive.

Where can I/we find a list of deploying units?

If you want to find out how to deploy as a volunteer give either one of the following gentlemen a call or send an email:

- SGM Owens (703) 607-3446 email: ngb.replacements.pull@ngb.army.mil

- LT Tyson (703) 607-5905 email: ngb.replacements.push@ngb.army.mil

There are some units tapped for deployment that are not fully manned and they get filled from people volunteering through the NGB replacement system. You should be able to find a unit with which to do your OEF or OIF tour. I'm an OEF voluteer myself and was lucky enough to serve on what I consider one of the best missions there is: the ANA (Afghan National Army) mission. Good luck!

Wow then I wonder where all of our soliders are going because I don't see them on buses to the border I see them on planes to Iraq and Afganistan. In fact they were just looking for 11B's to deploy to train afgan cops, they were looking so hard they even hit up the MI unit for anyone with a 11B secondary.
