My son is thinking about the NG, and wants to find out what
options are available to enlisted personnel in Aviation that
would allow him to be a member of a flight crew, and also if
there is an opportuinity to learn how to fly while serving, and
then apply for a warrant slot.
A little help please?

I don't think you learn to fly while enlisted, you learn to fly after warrent officer training, however the experiance as a flight crew member will help get him into flight training.

Thanks, WB. Do all repairers also serve on the flight crews,
or just the senior member of the enlisted team? (We have
only CH47's and UH60's here.)

ok I am 15G avaition structure repair. All "mechanics" are crew members, we all get crew member wings we are all allowed and required to fly at different times. I worked and flew on uh60s in iraq. He can become a 15T for UH60 general mechanic and they are usualy the crew chiefs/door gunners so they have the oppurtonity to fly alot.

I appreciate your information. We live in Colorado.
The good news for my son is that the aviation units
here stay pretty active between drills, wildfires,
moving the SF boys around, and rescuing dumb
skiers!
He's really jazzed about the idea of working out of
the High-Altitude Aviation Training Site near Vail.
****, it sounds good to me, too!
Thanks again.

First you have to be recommended to WOCS. From what I understand you need blessings from your company, battalion and brigade level C.O.'s to even apply. You also have to have a minimum GT of 110, good eyesight (no worse than 20/50 correctable to 20/20) clean record and be able to pass the AFAST and a flight physical. Any MOS can apply to WOFT but I understand that it is very selective and very competetive, as it should be. You wouldn't want a guy with an IQ of 82 and no depth perception flying a 6 million dollar helo full of troops would ya?:D
