I have re-enlisted into the guard with my same MOS going in as a E-5 I was told that I would have a 15,000 lump sum bonus given to me after I had been sworn in. No one there had any clue as to what I was talking about. So I guess my question is how long or when do I get my bonus. They told me that since I stuck with my same MOS that i would get a lump sum. Could someone please help me out and give me some information on this.. Just wondering how long it takes. Thanks

Ok recently I am hearing alot of this "lump sum" bonus. Please other recruiters if you have more info or if I am wrong here please do correct me.

There are only 2 lump sum bonuses that I know of.

1 is a 2,000 dollar lump sum bonus for MOS change to a critical MOS or manditory MOS change ie unit revamps.

2nd lump sum is a 15,000 bonus for RE ENLISTMENT while in COMBAT THEATERS such as Iraq, Afghanistan and any others considered by DA/DOD

A Re enlistment bonus in the states, and EVERY OTHER BONUS is a 50 percent payment after enlistment ( some bonuses state after MOSQ) and then another 50 percent on the 3rd aniversary ( 36 months) from the enlistment date.

This is the regulation on all bonus types from NGB.

According to the most recent Selective Reserve Incentive Program memorandum dated 26 May 2006, re-enlistment and extension bonuses will be paid in a lump-sum payment. If you want to see this, ask your local recruiter, they will be able to show you in writing.

Regarding how long it takes to get paid - Due to processing time, I have seen these payments take up to 3 months. Usually shorter. Another problem is with DFAS. Yes, the payment will be lump-sum, but currently DFAS will not cut a lump-sum check. They usually do it in two checks usually two weeks from each other. If you are having great difficulty in this regards, your recruiter can call the state SRIP manager, who can figure out why you haven't been paid, or let you know when you should expect to see the payment.

Thank you for your continued service.

Ok guys you are starting to confuse me , If you were out of the service and then you enlist its not a re enlistment bonus its a Prior service bonus. If you had a break in service for a day it would be a prior service or affilation bonus not a re enlistment or extension bonus. If you are IN the guard and RE enlist yes you get a 15,000 lump sum bonus so I was wrong about that, but you guys are confusing me. I was trying to decipher what everyone says. cause it sounds like the initial thread maker came from another service or had a break in serivce, since he mentions keeping rank.

SPC Tischner,

The OP is definitely confusing! But I got the same impression as you did: That there was a break in service. Possibly ARNG? Only the OP knows.

I think we have a major problem with the semantics of the SRIP (Policy 06-06) dated 26 May 06. The problem stems from interpreting reenlistment as it is outlined within the policy. Technically, a reenlistment applies to the reentry of an individual whether there has been a break in service or the service is continuous (aka "immediate reenlistment). The policy, however, makes a clear distinction between those with a break in service and those executing an immediate reenlistment.

When interpreting the policy one must understand that any time you have a break in service and reenlist you are executing a prior service enlistment, not a reenlistment in the sense that the policy defines it. Any one enlisting with a break in service therefore falls under the PSEB (Prior Service Enlistment Bonus). The PSEB payment schedule is 50% upon enlistment into the ARNG or completion of MOS training and the remaining 50% to be paid on the third year anniversary.

To qualify for a reenlistment/extension bonus (REB) you must be executing an "immediate re-enlistment". This is clearly clarified by paragraph g (1) of the policy which requires the soldier to "extend for three or six years" to meet the eligibility requirements for the REB. You can only extend your service in the ARNG if you are a current member of the guard, therefore a break in service makes you ineligible for an REB. The REB payment schedule is a lump-sum payment, which is payable upon the effective date of the new contract (one day after your current ETS).

All states Incentive Program Offices are required to re-check on the eligibility of the soldiers prior to payment of the bonuses and some may be catching enlistments processed in error and adjusting the payment schedule. The soldiers still are qualified to receive the $15,000 but at a different payment schedule. I hope this helps a bit.

Okay, so let's say I got back in(I'm prior service ARNG), and I decided to pursue a new MOS. I got out as an E-5, so I'm assuming I would go back in as an E-4. I would go to MOS school for maybe 9 weeks, and at the end of the 9 weeks I would get 50% of the bonus. So, if it was a critical skill, would the bonus be 15,000? So, at the end of MOS school, I would get a 7500 bonus, minus taxes?

Thanks

First of all, if I was you I would request to come in as an E-5 (I was able to bring in an E-6, but that's dependent on a unit having the vacancy and the chain of command accepting you into the unit). It's worth the shot, you never know what could happen.

If you decide to do a prior service enlistment w/ bonus (PSEB), and want to pursue another MOS it can only be one of the NGB Top Ten or your state's 20 critical skills. You can only get $15,000 as a PSEB, not the $20,000 the non-prior service get for enlisting into critical skills. Also, you're right about getting 7500 (minus taxes) after being MOSQ'ed.

All prior services enlistments get a $15,000 bonus. Only those with any, so to speak, "prior service" who fall under the glossary non-prior service definition are not authorized the bonus at all.

I'm a little confused about the enlistment bonus situation. I'm prior service - 12 years Navy - avionics 6611 / 6613 com nav separated in 92. Now working with a recruiter who first told me I could get $15,000, retain my former rank of E6 and was offering a 15N MOS. Now I'm being told he is having trouble securing the $15,000. He is advising me to enter under the "try one" program and then reenlist to get the bonus.
I would like to care for all of the details on the front end and am not feeling real comfortable with the proposed plan.
Are these bonus's available or not? Is his plan of using the try one method risky?

I would also like to know more about the try/1 enlistment. I am prior service and I have been told that as long as you complete MOS school within 2 years, you qualify for the prior service bonus. Half upon completing MOS school and the other half payable upon your 3rd year anniversary date. If this is the case, why do a try/1? You are only adding an extra year of service that will prolong another bonus option upon your next reenlistment.

I am currently serving under the Try-One enlistment. My ETS is in Sept and I plan on "re-enlisting" for 6years. I am told that the bonus will be $15,000 and that it will be a lump sum minus taxes. Where can I find out what the tax rate is? Also I have applied to a Title 10 position that I am being told I have a very good chance of being accepted to. My question is, will I have to repay this bonus if I take the Title 10 position? I have been told that if I stay as an M-Day for atleast 6 months that I will not have to repay. Is that correct as well?

That's correct. If you serve at least six months there will be no recoupment.

Your bonus will be a lump sum minus 25% in taxes.
15,000 - 3,750 = 11,250/2 = 5,625 (if you are getting half now and half at 36 months)
7,500 - 1,875 = 5,625......
and so on and so forth.

Find out who your readiness sgt is and get on his *** about if your paperwork has been completed, once that is done the LT told me it could take up to 2 months before you see it.

I am working with a recruiter to go into the NG. I am prior service with several MOS's. I want to go in with one of my MOS's that is not on the critical list. The recruiter told me that I would not be able to get any bonus. Is this true?

I was in the Guards ten years ago. I went to drills for about a year, and before I went to Basic/AIT I got out because I was pregnant.

I've been told that there is absolutely no way I can receive any sort of signing bonus. Assuming that is true, what are my options for reenlistment?

If I intially sign up for a 3/5, can I reenlist after three years? Or do I have to be in for longer before I can reenlist? Would I be eligible with the 4/4? Or does it have to be with the 6/2? What is the Try-One option?

Also, is it correct that in order to be eligible for the MGIB and the Kicker, the contract has to be at least six years? If it is true, would I be eligible for them if I only signed up for the 3/5 and then reenlisted for six?

It's really frustrating that I'm ineligible for any bonuses because of my glossary non-prior, especially since I didn't receive any bonuses when I was in before, and I just want to make sure I don't end up inadvertently making myself ineligible for the reenlistment ones.

(In addition to answers to these questions, I would welcome some pros and cons/advice on the contract options.)

Thank you!
