View Full Version : PARS Fractures Disqualifying??

I had PARS fractures in the lumbar section of my spine back in August. I had to go to a back specialist to find out I had them because the local doctor couldn't find them on a normal X-ray, it took a CT Scan to find them. I never had any surgery but I did have to wear a bone-growth stimulator belt for a few hours a day everyday for about 2 months. When I went to the doctor for a follow-up, he just said "do whatever you want to" but never gave a 2nd CT Scan or anything. I experience stiffness every now and then, and back exercises like the bent over barbell row I can't do anymore but besides that I'm fine; the running, sit-ups, and push-ups are good. I told my recruiter and she said that it was no big deal, but that I'd have to get records saying that I am fine now and that it might be a big hassle so that I should just omit that. Is she telling the truth when she says that it's no big deal or is it something that could be permanently disqualifying?

It could be disqualifying, but your recruiter is not a doctor and neither am I and thats why she told you to get the records. The only way to be sure is to get the records and let our doctors look at them. It could be disqualifying but a waiver may be authorised

When you get your records they will be forwarded to MEPS. They will review the record and then say if they will allow you to take the physical or not. At the physical they will check you out and if everything is fine they will put you right thru. If there are any problems and they dont want to sign off on you then you will need to get a waiver. Make sure you get all your Med Docs for this and also get a letter stating that you are capable of doing activites, unless that part is already stated in the Med Doc. The process could take some time but it will be well worth it.
