First post here, sorry if its kinda long. Im currently a active army SGT(P) deployed to Afghanistan. My ETS is SEP08. I am considering joining the guard in my home state of NY when I get out. My primary goal is to go to college and get my degree upon ETS. I am married and served in Iraq and now afghanistan and I would like to get my degree without a deployment interfereing. I saw mentioned a new program that allows you to go to college for up to 2 years with out deploying while still serving in the guard. I cant seem to find any info on this program though. Plus I believe that NY pays 100% tuition is this correct? And can my G.I.Bill be used in conjunction with it? I am married and the left over cash will be needed. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Ok your active dury GI bill can be used in conjunction with all our benifits or you can use the reserve GI bill and save the active duty for later. I do not know your state incentives only NJ ones. Best thing is to contact a NY guard recruiter. There is a program that allows 2 years non deployable but you already have to be enrolled or guarenteed a seat in the school at the time of enlistment, it is a program almost aimed to enlist sophmoros/juniors in college.
