Hello everyone. I am 31, single father of 2. I share custody with their mother and get them wednesday and every other weekend. For a career I am a software developer and have been for 10 years. I have always had a passion for the Military and somehow just never commited to it. In fact when I was in high school my goal was to either be in the Military or be a Police Officer..I became a computer geek instead. Not sure how that happened.

My question for you guys is what is the length of time I would normally be away from my kids and family? I know boot camp will take me away for awhile and thats fine but what about after that?

I would like my MOS to be Military Police or something to do with computers since I am a developer. If I signed up for that, is that the position I get? I have heard stories from people that signed up to do one thing then after boot camp they were given a completly different position.

Last question, how would the NG work around my current employer, especially for Boot Camp and possibly pre-boot camp? Would they send my employer a letter stating its manditory for me to go and would they have to hold my position?

Thanks for the help ahead of time and everyone stay safe.

Where are you located?

most of these things can be answered by a recruiter

such things as work
its a group called ESGR which basicaly all you have to know is that if you spent 6 months in the job full time your job is guarenteed for 5 years of military leave.

length of time depends on your job adverage is 4-6 months

In the army the job you pick is GUARENTEED and will not be taken away unless you fail the course.

Thanks for the reply. I am located in Indiana. I did apply for a recruiter to contact me via the website here. So far I havent heard anything but I am confident they can answer my questions. I was just wanting to get a heads up before that time.

I have been on this particular job for exactly 6 months, so that is good to know that my job is garunteed for 5 years of leave. If I miss read that please correct me.

4-6 months isnt that bad I suppose if I know that in the long run my family and I will be better off.

I appreciate your time on this. Hopefully I will hear from someone in the next day or so.

Enjoy the rest of your day.
