Is it possible to move to another state while still in the guard? Can you get transferred to the new state or are you obligated to stay until your time is up? Thanks!

We have a National Guard in 54 states and territories. If you move to a new state, speak to your current state's Interstate Transfer Coordinator BEFORE you move, to make a smooth transition. You will fulfill your enlistment contract in the new state.

Or you can just call the closest local recruiter to where you are moving, either or works, the recruiter will work just as well as the IST coordinator.

I am considering entering the USANG, however I may need to move before I ship for basic but after I enlist. How is that handled?

If you are planning on moving out of state, then you will need to either transfer to the National Guard of that state, or be able to commute to your unit once a month for training. If you are within commuting distance, this is the easier option, but if you're really far away, you will need to do an Interstate Transfer. Either way, its no big deal.

Are you able to move to another state? For example, I live in michigan, and i was thinking of moving to MInnesota so i could practice my craft more (i'm in the arts). is that a problem? Do i have to stay in michigan ?

If you move, you can transfer to the National Guard in the state in which you move to. Make sure you take care of the transfer (called an interstate transfer) before you finalize the move. If possible, contact a recruiter in the state in which you wish to move and they will get you in touch with the person in charge of processing Interstate Transfers.

You can transfer from state to state.

yes...its a simple administrative process. As long as the state you're going to has your MOS available, it's easy.

If the state you are transfering to does not have your MOS it is possible to change MOS'es(correct?) but that is a lot of red tape and often requires a shortened version of AIT.

I am in the guard presently but my contract is nearing the end. I want to reenlist but there are 2 things i need to know: 1) I would like to reenlist full-time 2) But i plan on moving to Texas would i have to contact a recruiter there or can the process be done at my unit's enlistment NCO or OIC?

What if the state does not have the MOS you want...can you get out..What are your options if you are in the Guard and the interstate transfer does not produce the MOS you are looking for??
