I was talking with a friend who is thinking of attending our denominations seminary. He was wondering about the requirements (age etc) of becoming a Chaplian in the Guard. What are the requirements and steps he needs to take.

He will have to become a Chaplins Assistant before he can become a Chaplin.
WRONG WRONG WRONG!
Chaplain Assistant has nothing to do with becoming a chaplain. They are two different career paths. One need not become a nurse before becoming a doctor (and one isn't "better" than another, they are just different).
Basic requirements for appointment as a chaplain:
Have an MDiv degree (or equivalent) from accredited seminary.
Obtain endorsement from his faith's chaplain endorsing authority.
Meet height/weight, physical, and age standards.
Be able to obtain a SECRET clearance.
If you are an MDiv student, you can become a Chaplain Candidate. This is like an internship, while awaiting completion of your requirements for full chaplaincy.
Speak to your state's Officer Strength Manager.
