I did not go to charlotte, instead we went to Columbia. I did not enlist because i did not know about warrior training. I think i will wait until next year when i have more vacation time to use to go to the training. my work only covers 2 weeks and the training is 4. this also means if i do what i planned and only did the try one, i would not be going to ait. we will see.

Hate to break the news to you, but if you're going to the Warrior Transition Course, you will be away more like 6 weeks. The course itself is 4 weeks, but there's processing, etc.

Your job will be held while you're gone. But you will definitely be gone longer than 4 weeks for the WTC.

You should check with your employer to see if they comply with USERRA regulations.
per the osc.gov website-

"The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), prohibits discrimination against persons because of their service in the Armed Forces Reserve, the National Guard, or other uniformed services. USERRA prohibits an employer from denying any benefit of employment on the basis of an individual’s membership, application for membership, performance of service, application for service, or obligation for service in the uniformed services. USERRA also protects the right of veterans, reservists, National Guard members, and certain other members of the uniformed services to reclaim their civilian employment after being absent due to military service or training."

or if you want the actual text of the statute:
"A person who is a member of, applies to be a member of,
performs, has performed, applies to perform, or has an obligation
to perform service in a uniformed service shall not be denied
initial employment, reemployment, retention in employment,
promotion, or any benefit of employment by an employer on the basis
of that membership, application for membership, performance of
service, application for service, or obligation."(emphasis added)

This basicly means that you can leave for training and they are required to take you back on in your previous position or a similar position when you get back. Hopefully this helps you a bit.

With regard to corporations, does USERRA still apply across sectors?

Joining the guard was one of the best things I've done so far in my life. I joined almost immediately after high school. Before I joined I attended 2 semesters of college and I realized how expensive it was. The guard is going to help me pay for the state college of my choice as soon as I graduate my basic and ait training. I applaud any person who is willing to join the guard or any other service to show there dedication of service to their country. Were the people who make our country the way it is. Were the people who can stand tall and know what its really about. Were the people who know that its not about being a hero, its about the man/woman next to you. No one asks to be a hero, sometimes it just happens and that's what selfless service is all about.
Stay strong,
