Hello all. I am prior service with the national guard and army reserve. I reached my ETS in 2004. Since then I have found myself really wishing that I could have gone on a mid east deployment. (My experiene was in the Balkans)
I read in the news paper that a unit in my area is moving out to Iraq at the begining of next year.

My question is, is it possible for me to re-up specifically to go on a deployment (with them or any unit). I guess I would want some form of assurance I could be on the deployment roster before I signed anything.

I understand that there would probably still be an obligation after we return home. I also realize I would probably lose rank, but I'm okay with that.

I didn't hold their MOS, (I was 12c, then 37F) however, they are not going to be performing their specialty, they will be doing route security.

I hope that made sense.

Thanks in advance.

It's possible to do so by doing the Try One option. I enlisted a PS into a deploying unit and he is now going through the process of mobilization. The entire deal with the deploying unit (you need the unit commander's approval) may hinge on your ability to go through the SRC without any hitch (being medically fit is huge), and willingness to extend (if asked) for the entire duration of the deployment. Usually you may not have to extend since once your name is in the deployment roster you become a stop-loss until the end of the deployment if you do not have sufficient time. Contact a local recruiter, but iron out all agreements before taking the step. For yours and the sake of the unit willing to take you, everything have to be set up straight.
