What is the realistic time frame from joining the Guard to being accepted to an AGR slot? The Army Reserves recruiter says it can be done in as little as 4to 6 months after WTC and AIT. I am prior service and would be going into the Guard as an E5.

You'll need to make a formal application for a specific duty position. From the time the position closes, it can be 3-6 months for the board to make a selection and fill the position. Since you're prior service, you should be eligible to apply for some positions right away.
If you don't mind moving to Arlington, I might be able to hook you up with a Title 10 gig. Email me with your number, we'll talk.

6 months after coming home is a good number because you can keep the first half of any bonus. If a bouns is not important then go apply to any that you might qualify for. Each state is diffrent so check to see if your state has a time limit.

My goal is to also get an AGR slot in the Guard. I'm able to relocate to anywhere. Single, no children. 32 years old. I dont ship to IET until 20070905. My Mos is 42A. I am close to a business administration technical college degree. (more than halfway there) I'm a squared away recruit. Taking my physical training very seriously. I realize that has a major impact on promotion. I studied in my own time, rank, values, creed, and everything else that comes up. I take the training they give us at RSP seriously. I make sure I completely understand all training. I'm also open to other fulltime slots. I know slots become available for specific amounts of time in units due to deployment. I'm aware of title 10/32. My understanding is the best chance for these slots is either admin or supply. I did not join the Guard for college or bonus money. Although I'm not complaining about it either. I joined to serve my country. I believe every able body person and in in the right mind set should inorder to not have Moms, Dads, brothers, and sisters deployed for any longer than they have to. Do our mission and get back home.
How soon after AIT can I start applying and not be laughed at? I ship to Bct as a PFC. I plan to get recognizion for my PT and leadership. I've looked at available slots in the past. Mainly in Wisconsin because that is where i'd prefer to stay, although willing to move anywhere. Thats about as far as i've gone because I know i'm not Mosq. What is the procedure for applying for all temporary and pernament slots? I'm aware that most applicants are interviewed. The best chance a soldier has is to learn as much as possible about the position before being interviewed. I want to be the best prepared I can. Any helpful information is welcomed. I want to have a plan in place. So far i've decided if I havent gotten a slot within two years i'll ask my unit for a chance to also get Mosq in supply. And if three years after AIT have gone by without a position, i'll think about active army. I'm getting a late start (age wise) and want to be on track as much as possible. Thank you.

You are welcome to apply for anything at any time. If you don't get selected, it's not like you get punished or something.
To apply for a Title 32 tour (state), look at the openings for each state: http://www.fulltimeguard.com/
To apply for a Title 10 tour (federal), go to https://gkoportal.ngb.army.mil/sites/jobs/default.aspx. If you don't already have a GKO login established, go to https://gkoportal.ngb.army.mil/ and establish an account first (which means that you'll need an AKO account established, at www.us.army.mil).

I will raise my hand tonight at 1900 and become part of the Montana Army National Guard as a 68W. This forum has been great to read and helped me to make up my mind. I will try for an AGR slot as soon as I can. I would love a title 10 but the wife and kids don't want to leave Montana. I figured they are behind me in joining the National Guard so the least I could do is to stay in Montana. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to answer all our questions.

I have been looking into the AGR system for the past couple of years. Unfortunately, in my state, RRNCO positions are usually the only open ones.

You are welcome to apply for jobs in other states. Title 10 will likely have a slot for you as well. You can also volunteer for mobilization.

Sir,
I have only came across officer positions available on Title 10 status. I could be looking in the wrong places.

The answer for the first portion of your question is yes, with a waiver. Six months of TIG (Time In Grade) meets the requirement, but you'll need a waiver for the TIS (Time In Service) requirement of 24 months. I must caution you that the commander grants promotion waivers based on recommendation from your immediate Chain of Command (supervisors) and they in turn base the decision to request a waiver based on your job performance. You must also be DMOS (Duty MOS) qualified.
The second portion of your question requires specific knowledge of the vacancies available for AGR recruiters in your state. The best place to get a solid answer to your question would be the Recruiting and Retention Command in your state.

The AGR force is what keeps the system running in between drills. Therefore, most AGR are personnel, finance, supply -- the unglamorous but necessary jobs. Most Title 10 slots are in the Pentagon area, although there are others throughout the country. For best guidance, speak with the AGR Manager for your state.
