Hello all,
My name is Muhammad Williams and I have kind of an odd question to ask.
I was recently put onto probation for a misdemeanor charge. Previous to that for sometime I had been contacting recruiters about joining the National Guard (roughly 2 years). What I would like to know is if being on probation for a misdemeanor will totally stop me from joining up.
I dont have any other serious violations on my adult record besides a few driving tickets but they are all paid. Honestly, I would just like to do something more constructive with my time since I am currently not in school and the military was my plan after college in the first place.

You will have to wait untill you are off probation and any fines are all paid. Now we need to look at your juvinial record also. If there is things on that it can make joining difficult.

I am going to talk to my attorney and hopefully a judge sometime before the weeks is over and see if there is anyway I can shorten my probation or nulify it by serving time for my sentence as opposed to enduring the length of my probation.
Besides that I have nothing on my juvenile record that would prevent me because I have nothing on it. The only other thing that might possible prevent me is a had a hospital stint back in 2005 where I had to visit the psych ward for a few days.
I can only hope that there is something I can work out because I have been trying to serve for sometime now and I would really like to do more with my time than I am currently doing.

Sit down with a recruiter and bring them up to date with everything. Listen to what they tell you to do.

I was able to join after all. I finally enlisted on April 12th and am happy to have done so. I spoke to my recruiter about my situation and he reinsured me after explaining to him the nature of the situation and speaking with my probation officer in order to get the okay.
Not only that but with all of my credity hours earned from college thus far I was promoted directly to an E3.
