Captain Irvin,

I am known as Vernon Charles Fredericks, a former Alaska National Guard Specialist. I am trained in many fields under the Medical Corps out of Fort Sam Houston, TX. and I was active Army for two years in Fort Hood, TX. most recently I am interested in re-enlistment previously I thought about using my OCS to enter into the Physician Assistant (65D) program, but that didn't work out. I was trained as a field medic, a flight medic, and a medical laboratory specialist. I am now an ordained priest with the Russian Orthodox Diocese of Alaska assigned as an assistant priest to Saint Tikhon's of Moscow mission here in Anchorage Alaska. What can I do to service as clergy in the Alaska National Guard? I am now 42 y/o, and maintain good health both spiritually and phyisically.

Well Father ,
Ask your local recruiter and he'll give u the info u need. As far as an enlisted guard soldier, I remember one of my old DI's telling use there are no athiests in the military, cause when the bullets are flying, YOUR praying to someboby they don't hit your A_ _ . good luck and God Bless

If you have a master's degree or higher, and have the ecclesiastical endorsement of your church hierarchy (talk to your bishop about this first), then you can be directly appointed as a chaplain in the Alaska Army National Guard. You should speak with the chief recruiter for Alaska, Warrant Officer John Carrico, at (907) 283-1438, or john.t.carrico@us.army.mil. Mention my name.

Contact the State Officer Strength Managers, and they can put you in contact with an officer recruiter who recruites chaplans. Good luck.
