Hi. I'm a 33-year-old former Marine, out since March 2001. I'm thinking about seriously joining the Guard, but I'm concerned for two reasons. 1), I have a DWI on my record back in '05, and 2), I'm not really sure about my reentry code. I got an early out from the Marine Corps when I got passed over for staff sergeant for the third time. I can get my DD214 (or a copy of it) very easy but I just want to know if it's really worth the hassle. I just don't want to put in a lot of work and it will be all for nothing. Thanks.

Are u done with your DUI as far as Fines , Probation. And if u were discharged from the marines for not getting promoted how were your evals ,
you probably won't have a problem if u were discharged under honerable. The best thing for u to do is talk to a local guard recruiter and he'll tell u if there's a problem.
Semper Fi and good luck

Get your 214 and take it to a recruiter. We can not advise you untill we can see your seperation code and the narritve reason. Its never a waste of time. You will know if it will work or not. If you only have 1 DUI than it will require a waiver.

If all you have is one DUI, you should be able to get in...even with your re-entry code from the Marines. Your recruiter will likely need to submit a waiver on your behalf, but it's not big deal.

I'm sure that if you contact a local recruiter he/she won't mind doing the leg work. Let the recruiter get a copy of your DD214 to find out what's your RE code. The DWI is not a problem at all. If that's the only offense you have on your record, you won't even need a waiver. Strictly going by what you posted, your enlistment should not require a lot of work. You can't find out whether it's worth or not without taking any action.
