I am currently a college student and would very much like to join the guard, and have for quite some time. The only problem is i cant seem to figure out why exactly i want to join. I guess what im saying is would it be a mistake to make such a large commitment with out knowing why.

There could be a lot of reasons why. It could be the honor of serving your country and state. It coulde be the great feeling knowing that you are there to help people in time of need. There is also the oppertunity to have free job skill training in just about any job you want. Or it could be the incentives that we add on to any enlistment. You need to sit down and think about what you want to do with your life in the future. Look at what we have to offer then ask yourself is that what I want to do and if its yes then how can the Guard help me get it.

My advise to you is to at the least, talk to you local recruiter and tell that soldier up front the YOU are only window shopping. Let the recruiter tell you what The Guard can offer you. There is a college $20,000 repayment for any college tuition that you have already paid out of pocket. Plus, there are many other bonuses that you may qualify for.
Also, do your own, in depth, research online about us at

We are heroes. Actors play heroes on film. They play us. They will never be us. Actors are all fakes that play make believe, get millions of dollars pretending to be us and then try to push their opinions are about the world. Yet...they have NEVER put their butt's on the line to better the world.
Good luck in whatever you choose.
Your state and country need you.
