You need to wait 6 months after BCT & AIT before you can try to go RA.

The guard and active duty are different. The state you were in paid for you to go to basic training and AIT and they will be very hesitent to let you go... trust me... im trying right now as it is. There are some forms you have to do, not to mention some SOB letters that people have to write to help it along... after that's turned in... you have to wait probably around 4 months for either approval or denial(sp?).
I know a lot of people that have tried and their commander basically said this, "Oh, you want to go Active Duty? Okay." And he sent them to a unit that is deploying. My suggestion... wait till your enlistment is up then sign up... it's not worth it.

Or try to go Active Guard. Same benefits, etc... but you choose where to work and live (90% of the time).
