I am a 10th grade high school student at Marion Military Institute. I am going to be 17 in less than a week. I want to join the national guard. Can I as a 10th grader who is 17?

You must complete your 10th grade before you can enlist as a 17 years old.

No, you have to be at least a Junior in High School to join the National Guard. As soon as this years seniors graduate from High School, (in June) you become a Junior and are eligilble to enlist....so you only really have about four months to wait.

No you will have to be a junior. We can not enlist anyone who is in a grade lowere than Junior.

You most certainly can with your guardian or parental consent. Otherwise if you cannot get them to sign, you will have to wait until you are 18. As a junior, you would go to basic training next summer and your job training the following. If they do not sign for you to join, you can still go to RSP drill (drill attended before completing your job training) each month if they will allow that and sign a form for you. You arent enlisted then, just preparing yourself for when you are 18 and can join. With most parents, your best bet would be to research the National Guard as fully as you can, get all the benefits organized...such as college money, bonus money, the experience, the discipline it will teach you, the dedication, the loyalty, integrity, monthly paycheck, looks good to future employees.... list goes on. And in a very adult sort of way, approach your parents with this information. Your parents and you can sit down with a recruiter and he or she can answer any further questions or aprehensions they may have.

Yes but you are going to be in a delayed entry program for a long time. Also, you have to have your parents support. If you want, contact me and I'll see what I can come up with. Some things may depend on your state too? just email me and we'll come up with something. Also, why so early and what are you wanting to do in the NG? Your mind sounds pretty set.
