I was wondering if I can join the National Guard even though I have braces on, or do I have to wait until they are off? Also, I know someone at work who has slight asthma but hasen't used an inhaler for probably ten years. Can someone with asthma join? Thank you.

What kind of braces and what is the condition causing you to use these braces? The condition for using the braces would be the factor that may disqualify you for service, unless they're braces for your teeth.

Your friend with the slight asma will not get in untill they go to their personal doctor and have tests run to prove that they have outgrown it or don't have it. Then all the medical documents will need to be submitted. Even then their is no guaruntee they will get in.

You will need to provide a letter from your orthodontist stating that all active treatment will be completed prior to going to active duty training and have the MEPS evaluate it. Once MEPS gives the OK, you are set to join.

If all you have right now are retainers, then you're good to go.
