Hello all!

I've always been interested in the National Guard, just never fully thought about joining. But lately I have been giving it more thought and before I proceed I would like some questions answered.

First off, I am a 23 year old female and currently in my 4th/5th year of university in Florida. I have an Associate of Arts degree and am studying Art History.

How will my AA help? Will that get me anything once I enlist? And as far as what I am studying, does it really matter? How would that affect my career choices once in? I have taken mainly art history and art studio courses and nothing else.

Also, I don't think I quite understand how this works. I can enlist now, finish the semester, then go to basic training in the summer? And how does the whole "getting paid before boot camp" work? I don't think I actually understand that.

And what type of career training is available? Or more, what kind of careers could I hope to gain from my experience in the National Guard?

Those are all the questions I can think of for the moment. I appreciate any and all help. Thanks!

Well first off your AA will get you promoted to E-3 if you have 48 credits.
Also you Degree choice will not affect your job in the Guard. We have jobs in the Guard in Media so it could correspond.
The program we have before Basic is called RSP. Recruit Sustaiment Program. We will train you before you go to BCT and we will pay you for your time.
Best thing is to go talk to a recruiter. They can give you the best information.

I am 22 and legally blind in one eye. Other than one deficient eye I am an in good physical condition and would like to enlist. Could someone tell me if there is a waiver that would allow me to join.

Sorry, need vision of some kind in both eyes.

"Absence of an eye, clinical anophthalmos, unspecified congenital (743.00) or acquired, or current or history of other disorders of globe (360.8) is disqualifying."

Blindness is a Permanent disqualifyer. Being that it is one eye I still do not belive that a waiver will be granted.
