My husband is active duty in the Air Force and currently we are stationed at Lackland AFB, TX. I am seriously considering joining and becoming 91w (AIT would be close to home). Something I have wanted to do for a long time. I think the only thing that is stopping me is....my 7 month old son. Anyways my question is this:
I talked to a recruiter a while back about family sep. He told me that there are some instances that if you are married and live where your AIT is...you may be able to live w/ your spouse still. Is that true? Any help would be grateful.

When I was at Ft Sam in AIT, there was a guy that lived in San Antonio and he was allowed to go home at night but it was a privilage and we were all already MOS qualified. Once again, I know people on a Guard site will be mad but just join the Air Force as one of their medics. that way if one of you has to PCS, there are not as many issues.

That sure doesnt sound like a good idea to just join the air force cause of PCS. Especialy since the Guard doesnt PCS and if your husband does PCS to another base all you have to do is get with the IST (inter state transfer) coordinator in your new state, its about 2 pages long and they just have to make sure you turned in all your gear to your old unit. ISTs have taken less then 5 hours for me to do.

Don't join the air force. GO ARMY!!!!!!!!!! AIT ***** for the first few weeks but you will start to get more privileges as you progress in the course. If you live in the area you will be able to see your family. I have had to work with the air force in the past and I am glad I chose the Army. Leave the air force alone. In the guard you can transfer with no problems.
