hey!
i'm just hinking about going into the guard and had some questions,
first would IBS keep me form being able to join? how many miles do you run and how fast do you have to run it in, i'm a little worried that i wont be able to keep up? Also ,this question only a gril could really answer, what is it like being one of few girls in the guard?

First, I don't know what IBS means, but im pretty sure they could help you get better at running, (I know I would help on that part since that shouldn't be a reason to keep someone from joing-but my guess is we live no where close to each other) as for the other question, a girl has every right to be in the military if she chooses to, as a guy does. Why should guys be allowed to fight to save their country, but a girl can't? There are now laws saying a female can do anything she want's (except murder!) without being held back, so even if you were the only female in the troop, don't let that hold you back if you really want to join, then join no matter what! Again, I’m not a girl so I wouldn't know, but I would guess even if you were the only girl (you wont be) you still wouldn't regret it.
Well enough talking for now, just have to toss this through the spell checker first lol.

I have wanted to join the military since i wasa little kid, so welcome to the group :)
It's good to know what you want to do when you grow up, makes things a lot easier.
I already contacted the recruiter and am getting things all set up, but i don't become an official member till June 16th (around this date anyways)
I will also be starting ROTC in a couple months :)
You have a couple years to decide what you want to do, so just give it time :)

Wow your just like me thinking about the guard. I was in sixth grade when I was thinking about it. Though right now I feel as though I'm the only high school student in my grade to think about the guard. As for IBS I could ask someone in my school who knows a lot about the guard.

Well I'll PM you on what grade I'm in. Sort of a internet safety reason. But it was shocking to me a few days ago when I was sitting in my history class and I hear some girls talking about boyfriends and what not. I thought in my head "Their talking about boys and here I am thinking about joining the guard." It sort of shocked me.

rooserdo, I can say that every morning when I wake-up and realize that Im in the guard makes my day wonderful because we (women) are getting to do more and more every day. Yes on occasions it makes me very unhappy that women can't do everything that men can do, but rember this we (women) get one step closer to doing what the guys can do every day that we are in the guard. What is your MOS? Mine's Motor transportation.

Man I hope my mom agrees in letting me join the guard. I really wanna help people and feel that way everytime I wake up in the morning. But right now school is one thing that is on my list.
But some people at my school are already trying to set up a time for me to see a recruiter. I told them that I need to do some reasearch before anything happens. But the good news is a lot of people told me that they could see me in the guard.
I wish you the best of luck this June countrygirl19.

As far as I've been told women can't be in the front lines because we are just too emocional. An as for the time wise thing you will get accustomed to being short on time I know I have especially because I also have horses and thank you for the good luck.

This is a very complicated subject, so do not rely on speculation to get an answer. The current military regulations are clear about women in regards to front lines duty. This has nothing to do with emotional behavior as a disqualifier.
Be advised that although females cannot go Infantry, many of the positions the are held by women in the military can mean some time may be spent in "indian country" (previous remark is just an expression not an insult, as locations around many front line areas are refered to as the Wild West by some). What this means is that just because you are not in a Fox Hole in some forward guard post, it does not mean that in a variety of MOS positions you will not be working in areas that may be deemed hostile - what it does mean is that you will not be part of an Infantry unit in attack mode - it does not mean that you will be in some rear detachment office somewhere, unless that is your job.
What you should do, as opposed to speculate on why you cannot do something, is to search out people (women) who have actually deployed in support of the National Objective, and ask them their roles in a combat zone. This would include MPs, MI personnel, Medical and administrative people as well. Your recruiter could give you information on units that have deployed and returned, and possibly provide you with contacts to do some research on the subject.

well i feel that i should know why, i mean if im goin to be put down by some army offcier then i want to know y but what ur saying ( my impression) is that what women CAN do makes up for what we cant do . that i dont think is true i have tlaked with may women who have served so i konw their roles and powers so i dont really understand Y front line duty is not offered to women

well maybe getting shot at should be more of a concern to you then red die. Not to sound like an a-hole but i dont think red die matters. Well wat MOS u thinking about anyways. And just for curiosity why do ppl want to join NG anyways. ~me, i need NG to get citizenship and $ for college~

Why do ppl want to join the NG? Well for me i've always wanted to serve in the military since I can remember. But it really hit home on 9/11 after i saw those planes hit the WTC's I couldn't think of anything but to join the military and help protect the country that I love and am willing to die for.Its not because of the money for college or a chance to say "hey i'm in the military" it goes much deeper than that. When u see innocent people having to jump off a building knowing there going to die its not something that u can just forget about and go on with your lives like it never happened. My ex-boyfriend got hurt in Iraq protecting the country he also loves so if u have to ask the question why would u join the NG then u really need to think about why u want to join.

I honestly want to go active duty army untill im 60 and retire so its not like Im joining NG just for the money. I need to go to NG to get citizenship and money for college so I can become an officer in the Active US army. In all honesty I'd rather go Marines but their minimum enlistment is 4 years, And i wasnt questioning any1's reasons for joining NG, I was wondering why people choose to go NG instead of active to help me decide which ones best for me.

If you still have time you should join the JRTOC or go to College with ROTC. I didn’t do either of these things before I joined the Active Duty Army (But I wish I had). I think first and foremost it teaches you what to expect upon joining. I'm not sure how IBS will factor in, but I assume you should be okay. It may be a problem in Basic Training, just try to persevere and push through the pain. Depending where you go for Basic it will **** at the time but it will be something to look back at and laugh/appreciate. I get out of Active Duty in about 6 days (30 April 06) and I am going straight into the PA National Guard (just for a year to try it out). I just got back from Iraq so I am not looking to go back any time soon. Let me know if anybody has any questions though. Dan

Hi there I am a female in the guard. I have to say I love it. I am in a medical unit and one of only about 8-10 girls. I love the military. As far as the army standards well...for a PT test you have to do 2 minutes of push-ups, 2 minutes of sit-ups, and a 2 mile run. Your age determines how fast you have to run it in. During basic training you have to get at least a 50%. Then in AIT you have to get a 60%. The Army standards can be found at http://www.usarec.army.mil/hq/apa/rc/apft.htm Just go down the F(female) column until you find your age then look at the column on the far left to see how many repetitions you have to do and how fast your 2 mile has to be. If you ladies have any other questions let me know.
