Looking for any units close to MA heading to Iraq/Afghanistan this year. I am prior service 11B. I wish the Guard had a program for prior service guys, willing to deploy, to do a year in the sandbox then get out. I know a lot of guys who would like to go to Iraq/Afghanistan and do there part, but don't want to deal with the garrison BS. Thanks guys be safe.

i just heard from the recruiter that I am working with that the 181 infantry in Worcester, MA is getting ready to deploy, but he is not sure where to.

I'm a 19D, no slots for me there, but they do have 11B slots open.

Thanks for the info CAVTROOP. It amazes me that the recruiters have so little info on deployments. I am not going to reenlist to sit around MA:mad: . I would really like to here from some recruiters on this. I think they miss out on a lot of good troopers because of this and I know it is not there fault.

Once you get back in (you can do Try-One) you can check GKO (Guard Knowledge Online) and request to be deployed.

My opinion, the recruiters should have more information about deployments to give guys. Either they are kept in the dark about such things or they are prohibited from given out the info or they are not doing there research. I would like to here from some recruiters and find out what the deal is. There job is hard. I am sure that having this information would help.

If you don't mind deploying as a 13B there's a unit in RI that is getting ready to mobilize.

What would a 11B do when deployed with a 13B unit?

Have this conversation with your chain of command. If your own unit isn't going anywhere soon, they can put you on the list for volunteers for other units in your state. With your commander's approval, you can also volunteer nation-wide. Log in to GKO (https://gkoportal.ngb.army.mil/), and see the volunteer link in the middle of the page. You must have your commander's permission in order to volunteer, so speak with him first!

Respectfully Sir, I would not reenlist on the chance that I can receive permission to join a unit preparing to deploy. I have spoken with to many guys who wanted to deploy who were blocked from doing so. I have been given the name of a recruiter out here and will see what he has to say.
