You will NOT be able to change untill you have completed BCT and AIT. After you get to your unit you can ask to change your MOS if the unit has the one you want, or ask for a transfer, which will probably not happen because you are new to the unit. That is why you need to really be sure that job you are enlisting for is the one you want in the first place. Sorry.

john wayne, you have some good advice on talking to his recruiter, but I am sorry to say that he will not be able to go back to MEPS and change his job. He has a contract that he has to fullfill and you just can't change it right in the begining. If you read my post you will see what has to happen for someone in the Guard to change their MOS.

For me to do the same thing, it'll almost literally take an act of congress... I have a major, a sergent major, and others pulling for me... (though I have slightly different circumstances).

Hope the best,
Jesse

As it was said above. It can be done if you have enogh people backing you and it is for the good of the service. If it also would be closer to your home to drill at another unit in another MOS.

Go EOD
Go Active in the BEARS program
Findout if there is anything that will take an 88M as an MOS for something cooler [I don't know of any Ranger Truck Drivers?].
Lastly, its what you make of it.
Your unit may make the worst job in the world the most fun and they could make the coolest job in the world a couple of years of ****.

Bottom line is you have to go through AIT [though you could just fail basic or AIT?]

You can renegotiate your contract since you are not MOS qualified. Or you can go about it the wrong way and not go to basic when you are supposed to and get discharge orders. Once you have those you can go back and enlist again.

As far as 88m being the worst job in the Army that is a bunch of ****. Only you can determine that. As a mechanic there were those who loved it or those that hated it. I felt a little of both depending on the day you asked me about it. It's like that with every job.
