Hello everyone, I signed at meps and have attended 1 RSP Drill weekend. But however I have found out the military is just not for me and would rather attend college ASAP. So I was wondering is there anyway I can opt out of my Army National Guard contract, meaning not get in trouble, or a bad type of discharge?

You really should've figured out whether or not it was for you before you signed.

If you were unsure, you shouldn't have.

That's a legally binding contract; good luck nullifying it.

If you really want out it isn't hard to think of (legal) ways to get out of it (for instance I have a friend who had cold feet after joining the Air Force so this very athletic girl put on about 60lbs in just a few months). However, DON'T DO IT! You will probably regret losing this opportunity.

I'm sure you didn't just wake up one day and decide you were going to join the Army today. You thought about it, you looked at your options, and you decided it was a good idea. Think back on some of those reasons now.

You are probably just having cold feet. I'm sure it will be fine.

If you are worried about school, well, I was 18 once and I know a few months to a year for training seems like a long time now, but trust me- it isn't. I'm 36 now and a year really isn't a long time at all. You can start school a little later, with a year's (or semester's) more maturity, and your BCT and AIT will definately make you more disciplined and maybe more mature. You will definately be more ready for school and the delay will be nothing.

Also, think about the benefits of the Guard. Depending upon your college you will get to go for FREE. You'll be putting some money in the bank. You will be getting valuable experience.

Try to think of the positives, realize the delay for college is nothing, and try to enjoy yourself (believe it or not, Basic Training can be kind of fun). Relax, it won't be nearly as bad as you may fear, and you may end up loving it.
