I had back surgery about three years ago due to a herniated disk. I'm doing pretty well now and I'm into a regular running and excercise program. Am I elgible ? with or without medical clearance?
Thanks

Any back surgery requires a medical waiver. You will need to gather all required medical documents, bring them to your recruiter to be submitted to MEPS for a pre-eval. You will also need a letter from yourself stating your injury and that you are in good physical health now with no limitations on you back. You will need to go to MEPS and get a full physical. MEPS will determine if a waiver is recommended or not. Once a waiver is submitted, and approved, you will need to go back to MEPS for an inspect physical and you will be allowed to enlist. Its a bit of a process, but definitely doable.

I recently attempted to do the same above in the Army reserve but told i was disqualified even thought surgery years ago and active life style afterwords - i heard that it may be easier to get into the guard. Should I even try? What about asking senator, congressman and state rep? I could get letters from mayors police chiefs and ect.
