I am currently enlisted and my MOS is 91W. I will be going to Basic and AIT in a few weeks. I have been looking into the nurse corps. I plan on going to school to get my degree in nursing after AIT. Can I become an officer immediately after I get my degree, or do I have to wait for my current enlisted term to expire and then reclass?

I know people that have commissioned as nurses during an enlisted contract. It all depends if they have slots or not.

Once you have a BN and have passed your nursing board exam and have your license, then you have the professional credentials for appointment as an Army Nurse officer. Please speak with your state's AMEDD Recruiter or Officer Strength Manager.

My question is along these lines as well, Im going in as a 91W.... and would like to serve as an enlisted before becoming an officer... But are there any other type of Medical jobs that is more Medic oriented and not becoming a Nurse or Physician... I would like to stay in the Emergency Medical part.... Just wondering if i NEED to become a Nurse/Doctor to be a medical Officer....

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to accomplish. If you want to serve as a medic (91W), then do so. No one will force you to become a nurse or doctor or physician assistant or anything else, but the Guard will support you in those endeavors if you choose to pursue them.

Yes -- Medical Service Corps. Med Services do the planning, logistics, and other medical admin tasks that allow the medical professionals to concentrate on treating patients.

If I understand this correctly, I can come in as a 2LT without any medical training into the Medical Services Corps. What kind of initial training does the Medical Services Corps Officer get?

Army schools are the same for NG as for active, just shorter duration or same duration depending on state NG funding, the school and how much time you can give. Train ing is the same. Here is the late info.

Like it was said earlier...there are surgical techs, medical supply techs, medical admin specialists, dental techs, x ray techs, pharmacy techs, lab techs.....and so on and so on....there are at least 35 different medical jobs EXCLUDING being a PA, MD, or Nurse.
