Over the course of my 23 years on planet earth I have used marijuana 3 times. This occured over 2 years ago and has not happened since (or will ever happen again). Can anybody tell me what specific jobs I cannot partake in or if I won't be barred from any jobs at all. I have 2 bachelors degrees (finance and history) and a masters degree (history education) with a 3.9 GPA. I have no criminal record whatsoever and i have perfect credit. I also scored a 98 on my ASVAB. Can someone help me on this matter. All I have heard is that "it depends on your MEPS". To me thats obvious but I need a more specific answer than that to go forward joining the guard. Thankyou for your help.

Would that even matter? They won't find out if you don't tell them. Marijuana doesn't stay in your system for that long, it's not like they would see it in a drug test.

This advise is probably not the best advise to give here in this forum. No one here should tell anyone to "lie". That is not the information that should be givin out in this setting. A lot of people read the posts and if someone starts telling people who are interested in joning to "lie" or not tell, it make the enlistment process harder, and also if someone "lies" and it is found out the individual could be discharged and loose all the bonus money and the education money that they were promised. Then if they try to join again, a waiver may be needed, then the worst part is that they will be know as a Glossery Non-Prior Service. That is someone who was discharged before completeion of AIT. A GNPS gets no incentives, NONE!!! SO lets not pass on bad advise. It could cost more than you know.

I'm assuming 'Hannah' didnt know it is a direct question they ask you at MEPS and is why she said they wouldnt know if you have ever previously used drugs.

You will actually be asked the question a few times in different ways. I dont know what the consequences are for using years ago and not having any issues since. I'm not a recruiter. I would actually tell this to your recruiter before going to MEPS and find out what will happen at your MEPS for disclosing your honest past. Each center is different and they will have the correct info for ya.

Tell 'em at MEPS. Get the waiver. Done.

It might affect your ability to get a TS-level clearance. It was a serious question on my application for that clearance.

No matter what other advise you get from this forum, go with the one from PARecruiter11B24. Full disclosure is always the best and only policy that you should follow. It is in keeping with the values of honor and integrity we, as the ARNG, will teach you.

In any case, an applicant who self-admit to experimental use of marijuana do not require a moral waiver and is considered fully eligible. Experimentation as defined by the enlistment criteria is a one time use or casual use, as in occasional, accidental, or irregular intervals. Three times in a lifetime pretty much falls within this definition.

Remember, experimentation should not create any road blocks on your enlistment unless you fail to disclose it and it is somehow found out at a later time. Show true character and disclose it when interviewed. MEPS do not have a special enlistment criteria, where it should depend on which MEPS you go to. We all follow the same criteria to qualify applicants.

Thanks SFC Marrero. I forgot about that stipulation. It makes me feel good to see a senior recruiter agree with what I say.

ok when it comes to drug use.... they are not going to find out... you take a pee test...if your clean then they assume you dont do drugs.. so i culd see it ok to lie about that...cause telling them that you do drugs, will poss cause you to disqualify for certain jobs and loose the bonuses.

now medical and criminal records...you should tell the truth about.

though the senior recruiter is correct. The rules for Mary Jane and a TS change all the time and a big question you have to ask yourself, is your desire to give up everything for your country bigger than your desire to smoke for the next 4 years.

I cannot say what I have smoked and what I have not but I do a job that nobody else will do and I am happy with it so why should some investigatior even ask knowing what I was willing to do for my country.

Now if you think you need a hit sometime in the next 3 to six years, get out of my army! Don't need ya, thanks for asking!

If you cant be honest then I dont want you serving along side of me!!! Just be honest its the year 2007 how many people do you know that has never experiment with pot??? My point exactly! If the Army based your MOS on your past trail and errors with pot then the Army would be a lonely place!!! I hope you make the right decision and help ensure that the duty of being a soldier remains an honorable one!!!!!!!!!
