Hello!

I just submitted my paper work to my ANG recruiter and will hopefully be going to MEPS within the next week. My mother was going to purchase me some athletic shoes for general work out purposes, but she would also like to know if "civilian" athletic shoes like Adidas, Nike, New Balance, Asics etc. are what I would take for basic training. Or do you receive special athletic shoes. If I do not receive special athletic shoes, then what style (running, walking, cross-training, terrain, etc.) shoes should she purchase for basic training??? Are there color restrictions??? Are there brand restrictions, etc???

Thank you,

Tiffani

As far as I know there are not any restrictions, however you may just want to get a pair to work out in for now and get a different pair in basic. Remember you will want to pack light. Everything you pack you will need to carry. You will have an opportunity to purchase some personal items need at the PX. Ask you Recruiter for more information.

Good Luck.

In basic training, they almost always make you buy new athletic shoes. Once in a while, they let you use the shoes you have, but I wouldn't spend too much money on new shoes yet. They will give you a cash advance on your first paycheck to buy new shoes and anything else you need. If you're wondering what style of shoes to buy...its "running".

I went to Ft. Knox and I had already bought stuff from the packing list the recruiter gave me. The Drills at receptions made me buy the stuff that they wanted me to have so I wasted a bunch of money. My advice is taking the bare minimum so you waste as little money as possible.

Running is what I have. Like VTguard
n basic training, they almost always make you buy new athletic shoes. don't spend to much money on them. I've bought some a month ago and their New Balance and I got them for 49.00. My suggestion for you is don't spend to much on them not 50+.
