Hello,

I was hopping that someone would be able to help me in answering my question.

I had to have a major surgery December 27, 2005 where I had to have my left kidney removed do to the fact that it died for no apparent reason during the operation the surgeon nicked my diaphragm this in returned collapsed my lung and I developed pneumonia. The doctor told me that my right kidney is functioning at 100% how ever I do develop Kidney stones every now and again. The doctors have ran test on me to try and determine what may be causing the stones to develop but can not determine what it is.

My question is would I be eligible to enlist into the National Guard since I have had a major surgery and only have one Kidney?

Thanks for any help,
Scott

Unfortunately, missing a kidney is a permanent disqualifier from enlisting in the Army National Guard, or any other branch of service.:(

There is an Army Regulation called the Standards of Medical Fitness (AR 40-501) There are several conditions that are listed as Permanent Disqualifiers (such as missing a kidney, Osteoporosis, Seizures, etc...) Permanent disqualifying conditions are conditions that are considered to reduce your physical capacity or stamina or somehow make you unable to fully perform your job.
