I was discharged from the corps in 1994 after 11 months of service. I received an oth seperation. misconduct drug abuse. an isolated incident. I have tried everything I know possible to get it upgraded. twice the ndrb. the nbrc. two congress members. a senator. and even a letter to the president. i dont want a free discharge upgrade i want an oppertunity to earn a honorable seperation. Last year in May I put together a moral waiver package with a recruiter here in texas. I waited six months when I was told it was declined. the guard was no longer excepting re4b's at this time. My question is do they ever let in re4b's? Will the chance that the military may be increasing effect this? Can anyone help me?

Yea, don't use drugs. I think the military is correct by not giving you a Honorable Discharge. You joined the greatest fighting force in the world that is charged with defending the Greatest Nation on God's green earth. Not only did you shame yourself but you brought shame on the uniform, your unit, and your branch. If it really is an isolated incident, then good for you for not getting hooked or for getting clean.
Honorable Discharges are for Honorable Soldiers. Honorable Soldiers do not experiment with drugs. They risk being killed for this country, part ways with their families while being deployed, and defend not only this country but also assist other countries. The stayed true and followed orders and policy and earned their discharge. Did you really earn an Honorable Discharge???

first of all i did not receive an honorable as i wrote if you could read. second of all i was not a soilder, but a Marine. It was an isolated incident during the cutback period so i was rushed out. There is not a day i do not regret this mistake. have you never made a mistake? I take full responsibility of my actions but i am asking for help in redeeming them. next time read before you judge mr. toothless 2top.

Let me begin by saying, it was not my intentions to cause a childish argument. I did not say that you obtained an Honorable Discharge. Maybe you should re-read my comment. My last sentence was in the form of a question (hence the question mark). I was asking if you "EARNED" an Honorable Discharge. It was my understanding that you were trying to obtain an Honorable Discharge and I was merely inquiring if you felt as if you earned it. You were right and I was incorrect for calling you a soilder. I, like you read only what I wanted to read and missed the part where you said you were a "Marine." Also, to answer your question, sure I have made mistakes, I'm human. Although I must add that I never smoked marijuana or any other type of illegal narcotics while I served. I was True to myself, my unit, and the ARMY.
Good Luck in life Sir!

no tow2top I do not believe I earned an honorable seperation. I agree 100% with the Corps decision on my discharge..I do not want an honorable discharge given to me by any means..I would just like the chance to earn one. I was 18 when I made this error, not anything like that these 12 years later. good luck with your medical waiver..

Ok well let me stop this from escelating,

RE4b is able to join with a waiver.

the RE code is not the only thing that matters, Narrative reason for discharge and character of service matters also. Now i really dont care what you did or did not do so both of you please stop.

cfrmtex,

The RE code is not what's stopping the process, it's the OTH. Unfortunately, as the regs stand right now, no waiver is authorized for personnel who were discharged with an OTH. No one knows whether new regs would allow an OTH to return to service and redeem themselves at a later time so keep checking because you never know.

Spc Tischner,
I appreciate your concern for our dispute but it looks as if we worked it out all by ourselves without even needing any help from you E-4.

This is my discharge from the Navy back in 1989:

Type of Separation: Entry Level Separation Uncharacterized
Separation Code: JDA
Reenlistment Code: RE-4
Narrative Reason for Separation: Fraudulent Entry

My urine tested positive for cocaine when I entered bootcamp. Was sent home after 4 weeks of bootcamp. That was 18 years ago. I learned from that mistake. Would I be able to join the NG?

Ok You will need a State AG waiver due to the fraudulent entry on your 214. What I see as being an issue is the drug issue. You made need to show proof of 1 yr of drug rehab. I am not saying it will happen or not. Go see a recruiter and show them all your paperwork so they can tell you if it might happen or not.
