If my husband switched from active duty army to a technician position in the guard does that mean his chances of getting deployed will decrease ? i understand that technician work for the state with their AGR counterparts , so if their AGR counterpart gets deployed does that mean as a technician he will have to go to ?

Right now we live in Virginia , but we dont want to settle down here , would it be possible for a guard recruiter to look at technician jobs in another state and then my husband apply for that position ?

If he were to become a technician , does he have to enlist in the guard ? or does the state just employ him and he works with the guard ?

My undersatnding, and you will want to verify this with your perspective state:

1. Technicians are not required to be members of the ARNG, and as such a civilian/veteran technician is not subject to deployment.
a) if the technician is a member of, and actively drilling with, aunit of the ARNG deployment possibilities apply.

2. Transitioning from AD to ARNG does not mean you are locked into any state. The In-Service recruiter for your AD Command can coordinate with any state you desire to go to. You may want to locate your post/command In-Service recruiter for more information and assistance with the intricacies of transitioning to the ARNG and information on locating and applying for AGR/Tech positions within a perspective state.

Cjeck out the following links, but be advised they may or may not be 100% up-to-date, or complete. You will want to follow-up with the state you want about specific AGR positions that are posted for theat state and not to the public:

Do yourselves a favor and, as LRSU Dog recommends, contact the state recruiting rep for the state you're planning on moving to and also try to make contact with the HRO for that state. A lot of states require their technician to be concurrent members of the ARNG and as such they would be deployable if their units were to be mobilized. Make an informed decision by finding out as much as you can before taking any action.

I agree 100% if you want to join the military or anything else in life do your research first. So that you don't walk into something that you did not want to do.

Your full-time status has nothing to do with your deployability. If your unit is called, you go.
Speak to a recruiter in the state in which you plan to live.
If the job is coded as a "dual-status" technician, then he must serve as a drilling ARNG Soldier as a condition of employment. There are also DA-civilian and state-civilian jobs, but they don't seem to come open very frequently.
