I am 17 and just finished school. I feel that joing the National Guard would be a smart thing to do because I have future career plans in the Law enforcment area. At the same time I'm worried that I'm not physically ready for the pre boot camp. I want to know if joing at a young age is a good idea or to just start college and join after.

considering the NG pays for all your college....
just go to a gym and work out more often (if you don't already do that)
if you aren't in exact shape when u join, lol they will work on that

I personaly suggest that you join the guard as a way to pay for college and in so doing that you can get in shape.

Money for college and getting in shape are not the best reasons to join for as countrygirl posted.
If you want a future in law enforcement, try to get in as an MP. Police departments will look at your application more for having military service. While serving, if you can manage to get a degree in Criminal Justice, you'd be even farther ahead.
What are the requirements for you to be able to get into a police academy? At my college, the requirement is a) military experience, b) a degree, or c) enough credits that the 12 you will get from academy will give you a degree. If you're worried about being in shape, academy would kick you right in the butt.
The best thing to do, if you want to serve your country in the military, is get in shape and do it. Start doing sit ups, push ups, and running. If you are really out of shape, start slowly and work your way up. There's no rush to join so the better shape you are in, the better. You don't want to use BCT as a means to get into shape, just to get into better shape while honing your skills.
