Computerized ASVAB practice test

Today I took a computerized practice test at the recruiters. I already got my score but it seems low to me, but they assured me that it was a great score. What range would you guys consider a good score?

Because when i got my score (56) i was bummed because i thought it was a poor score (not knowing to be a MP all i needed was a 50) until i found out it was actually a really nice score

I got a 65 on mine. On the Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension I did real good, but what killed me was all them solve for x problems. I just got one of them ASVAB study books from the bookstore so I can start refreshing my math.

Thats pretty dang good that what I think. I take the recruiter computer test this wesenday im kind of scared! I study every day a little bit and at night! 2ndGlance if you need help with math I can help you some but I don't know how
where going to do it online, I am pretty good at math. What duty have you decided on?

Chris thanks on your offer, even though it would be difficult to do online. Its not that I need help with the math I just have to refresh myself on some of the algerbra. The last time I even looked at an algebra problem was in high school back in '98. Right now I am pretty much settled on 19 Delta (Cav Scout).

2ndGlance what do you need to score to become a Cav Scout on the ASAVB? You would of scored probably pretty high back in 98' but now they have all this brand new math they just keep adding and adding on if you know what I mean.

When your recruiter give you the Pre-Asvab does any body know how long it last?

It usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes. It only tests the Math and English sections of the test.

The reason why so much weight is given to the Math and English during the practice test is that those components are the main ones used to determine your AFQT scores. Read below to find out the composition of the test and how those components are used to score your knowledge and aptitude.

"The Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a group of 9 subtest that measures your ability in separate career areas and provides an indication of your academic ability. The entire test takes approximately 3 hours to complete. The subtest are given for the following aptitude areas: General Science (GS), Arithmetic Reasoning (AR), Word Knowledge (WK), Paragraph Comprehension (PC), Mathematics Knowledge (MK), Numerical Operations (NO), Electronic Information (EI), Auto and Shop Information (AS) and Mechanical Comprehension (MC). Four of these components (AR, WK, PC, and MK) comprise the AFQT - Armed Forces Qualification Test. The AFQT score determines whether or not you can enlist in the National Guard. The rest of the components are used in various combinations to determine your aptitude scores for 10 career path areas:

- CL - Clerical (WK+PC+AR+MK)
- CO- Combat (AR+CS+AS+MC)
- EL- Electronics (GS+AR+MK+EI)
- FA- Field Artillery (AR+CS+MK+MC)
- GM- General Maintenance (GS+AS+MK+EI)
- GT- General Technical (WK+PC+AR)
- MM- Mechanical Maintenance (NO+AS+MC+EI)
- OF- Operators and Food (WK+PC+NO+AS+MC)
- SC- Surveillance and Communications (WK+PC+AR+AS+MC)
- ST- Skilled Technical (GS+WK+PC+MK+MC)

The scores on these components determine what job specialties are best suited for your current knowledge and aptitude, and these will be the specialties offered to you for enlistment.

To qualify and be eligble to join the National Guard you need an AFQT score of 31 or higher (a score of 16 to 30 would allow you to join as a CAT 4, but you are not eligible for any of the bonus incentives. You will also have to wait until NGB opens the window for acceptance of CAT 4 which is not that often at all). A score of 31 to 49 will allow you to join with the basic package of bonuses and incentives which have been discussed and posted in other sections of the forum. A score of 50 or higher on the AFQT, allows you to qualify for all incentives and bonuses anyone is eligible to receive provided you meet the criteria for the job specialty selected and availability in your state."

The recruiter can not give you the entire test because there would be a conflict of interest that could be used by some to compromise the test. It's not a lame excuse. It ensures that everyone trying to join is in the same level field and is able to join solely on their knowledge and ability.

I took the asvab, but then nobody contacted me to tell me my score so i figured i did badly and didnt care to see what they were. 2 days ago (a year and a half since i took the test) a navy recruiter calls me and says i got a 78 on the test. He told me that was a great score, top 12% in the nation. If its so good than why wasnt I ever told about it? Is a 78 really as good as the navy guy says or is it just an average score.

I've been thinking about joining and pretty much decided that I am going to join! I want to be a 91W.. I hope I dont sound like a fool but anyone know what score I need on the ASVAB to become a health care specialist?

There is not really a minimum ASVAB Score to do any job. The minimum to pass is a 31, and other than that, you need to score high enough on the individual sections of the test that relate to your job. For example, for 91W:

1. You need to get a passing score of 31 or higher (just like any other job)
2. You need to get a "Skilled Technical Score" (ST) of 101
3. You need to get a "General Technical" Score (GT) of 107

Now, if you only score a 31 on the ASVAB, it is not very likely that you will get ST and GT scores high enough to be a 91W. To be a medic, you're looking for a score somewhere around 60 or higher. That doesn't mean that if you score a 55 you can't be a medic. As long as your ST and GT "line scores" are high enough, you are qualified to be a medic (91W). Each MOS has its own individual requirements for line score.

When i took the recruiters test, i scored like 20 points lower then when i took the real test. On the recruiters computer i got a 63, on the real deal i got an 88

Anything in the 90's if you've made it through eighth grade... ;)
It's not exactly the SAT, dude. It's simple stuff.
(don't worry if your score comes out weird during practice- the scoring system on the real test will work its magic in a way that I don't think anyone really understands and will churn those numbers around and spit out a big fat "A")

ASVAB scores are percentile based. The score you get indicates the percentage of people you scored higher than. If you get a 65, you scored better than 65% of test takers. You can't get lower than a 1, or higher than a 99, because you can't do worse/better than yourself.

Your recruiter should have a list of scores needed for each MOS. From my recent experience, the recruiter's practice test and the tests in the study books are harder than the real thing. Good Luck!

what jobs can can I get with that score.
