I am considering joining the Oklahoma National guard. A recruiter told me that any student loans taken out before and after enlisting are covered under the Student Loan Repayment Program. I also read that only those loans taken out prior to enlisting are covered. I know it's up to 20k and needs to be in your contract but my main concern is whether or not any student loans taken out after I enlist will be covered also. If anyone can shead more specific light on this subject, it would be very helpful. Thanks

The SLRP is only toward pre-existing loans, and will not affect any "new" loans you have after you enlist. You need to contact your recruiter an ask him/her to clarify the SLRP - as well you should point out what loans you have now.

If you also look at the ARNG Tuition Assistance and MGIBill you may not have to take out future loans, or extremely minimal ones, if you also include / consider Pell and other grants toward paying your tuition and school costs with educational benefits in the ARNG.

Again get a clarification, and do not be afraid of asking your recruiter these questions until you are 100% in undersatnding of the answer you are given - then if you still want another opinion throw it on this forum and one of the professional recruiters can assist to verify the information.
