Actually, Boy Scouts is a really good way for a younger person to get a head start on a military career. Although the Boy Scouts is not really that much like the military, many of the skills and values important at the Eagle Scout level are similar to those of the Soldier. That's why an Eagle Scout that enlists in the Army National Guard can go in as an E-2. Another good way to get a head start on your military career is to do High School JROTC. If you complete one year, you can also be promoted to E-2 upon enlistment. If you complete three years, you can enlist as an E-3. It's not that these programs are similar to being in the Army National Guard or any other branch of service, but they focus on core values that are similar to the Army values, and actually teach a lot of valuable skills that will serve you well throughout your life whether you decide to join the military or not.
