Is it true that you have a dental exam when you are at basic or before? I was just wondering if this is true. Cause I have some problems with my teeth. Should I get them taken care of before basic.

nothing major just some cavities and maybe need a tooth pulled.

yes....absolutely. You should take care of any dental problems you may have before you ship to basic training. First of all, they will examine you before you go, and even if they don't notice the cavity, I'm sure you don't want to deal with dental problems in Baisc Training. You probably won't have time to get it taken care of in Basic, and if you wait until you get back, it will be a lot worse. Do youself a favor and take care of your teeth ASAP.

Oh...and one more thing. I had an Army Dentist pull my wisdom teeth and I can tell you with all confidence that you'd be better off having your own dentist do the work.

I have a friend who cannot remember if it was at Reception for basic or before being deployed to the dessert in the early 90's, but the dentist took everyones x-rays and a SGT told him he had an appointment later that day to have his wisdom teeth pulled. Friend skipped his appointment because he knew all of his wisdom teeth had been pulled years before. He ended up getting yelled at for skipping the appointment and was told to go right away. Dentist is just about ready to numb him, friend says, doc, I really think you need to take another look at my x-rays, I dont have any wisdom teeth. Sure enough, something got mixed up (name on the wrong x-ray) and he didnt even have any deep inpacted ones. I'd rather have a family dentist work on me then the military dentist! I'm sure they do a good job and my point isnt to say they arent. But everyone is human and when you have lines of people to get through....things happen.

My little brother got all his teeth fixed in basic. He said that it was a requirement to graduate.
As mush as I would like to get my teeth fixed before basic I do not have the money or insurance.
