I was sitting around thinking about what else I could do while in the Guard, when I realized why I wanted to join almost 2 years ago. I heard of Riot Control and fell in love with the idea of it. Dispersing wild mobs is something that I'd like to do. Although Jersey dosen't have much riots I'd still like to find out more.
So, my first question is: How do I get into Riot Control? Is it part of infantry?
My second question is: If I join the guard part-time in that riot control division, what might I be doing over the summer? I'd still continue to go one weekend a month, right? Or would I be doing more activities? Thankx in advanced for the help.

MP's =Military police I know they do riot control training. I do not beleive there is a riot control unit any where in the military.

There is not a designated Riot Control MOS or unit in the military. Combat personal are trained to deal with riots.

Riot Control is a type of operation performed by certain MOS's (MP's, Infantry, and a few other combat speialties). This type of operation is conducted during time of civil unrest by the Army and also the ARNG. Usually, the state's governor activates his own state Guard to respond to the unrest and if the state Guard can not handle the situation he may request federal support (i.e. the Army). It is not a type of unit, therefore you can not enlist into any unit that will specialize in conducting Riot Control operations training.

I know that in my State, all our Engineer Companies have riot gear. Not sure if all units have them, or just us...

In 1967 - The 177th MP BDE was activated dor the riots. Losing one of their own in the turmoil. Since Sept 11, 2001, the 177th & the 210th MP Battalions have be busy as all get out! They have a border, and the man power to cover all those things the local police can't!
My point - find a unit with that designated importance to it's state, and you will find yourself at home! ............ Sir!
