I tried to go for a run tonight and it was bad. Didn't even make it half mile before having to walk. I ended up running/walking about one and a half miles. I need to work on cardio can anyone help me with this? What can I do to strengthen my cardio to be able to run better and make the tape for basic.
Thanks in advance

Keep up what you're doing....it WILL work. Keep running everyday. Push yourself to run longer each time. You will feel like walking, but DO NOT STOP. Keep pushing yourself to run further. You should be able to run at least a mile without stopping....even if you run slow. Do this everyday and keep track of your time. Eventually you will reduce your time. Eat several light meals throughout the day instead of a few large meals. Eat lots of fruit and pasta and drink lots of water. This will give you the energy you need to keep running everyday. Also do situps and pushups every other day. Again, push yourself to do as many as you can without stopping. Over time you will increase your muscular strength and endurance, and you will lose weight.

I always like to say keep running till you feel like you are going to throw up, that means you hit your endurance limit, it helps me lol

just run everday. Doesn't matter how fast. Just run. After a couple of months, you will see a huge difference.

I agree with SPC Tischner. If you do throw up, keep running anyway. Words to live by:
When you feel like you can't run anymore...keep running anyway. LOL

Can you overdo it? Should I run 2 times a day. Once at night and once in the morning.

I haven't ran again yet the weather drop to about 14 degrees out a little cold for me I think what i am going to do is work one day on running then the next sit ups and push ups then running the next and so forth. I think that should help. since i have drill in two weeks and not sure what my mile time is yet. and plus looking into a 24/7 fitness center that just opened.

I joined Snap Fitness, a 24/7 gym and absolutly love it. It is a no frills gym at a very resonable cost. I have a crazy schedule and its so nice being able to go there at 3am if it is necessary. Living in the midwest, its nice to have a place to workout inside. I know when sent to war or even training, we dont have the luxery of not being out in the cold, but while its my choice...why not!

I know I will have no choice if it is cold while at basic or ait. I just don't feel like catching a cold I mean I will work out in the cold. One of the problems right now is that the wind is 1. strong enough to knock me over 2. is just down right evil. I know this sound like i am making an excuse but in my job i get sick go to work sick I could make someone gravely ill and i don't want to do that.
maybe I am just being a wheenie I prefer not to be can't aford to be that in the military

If you cannot afford a gym or a treadmill run in place or around your house
may look stupid but at least you're moving. try running in place as long as you can 20 - 30 min. then try to increase that.
It is different running for distance but it all works toward stamina.

**** it up pumpkin! No excuse will make the pain in basic feel better. You can feel a little pain now and run in the cold or feel a LOT of pain later in basic. The choice is yours.
P.S. Average temp In Anchorage AK. last 14 days was 7F (not including the wind chill). If I can run in it, so can you!!!

I would suggest you only run once a day every other day. On those off days do pushups and situps like the seargent wrote. That is how basic was. We did pullups along with the pushups and situps, so you should try doing those as well. Also once a week try doing 30-60s. This is where you walk or jog for 60 seconds and then you sprint as fast as you can for 30. Try doing like 5 cycles to start off with. I am a runner and these helped me a great deal. My two mile time going into basic training was 12:53. My final time was 11:52, which was the best time in the company. Do not worry if you are not a pt stud. There will be something that you excel over other privates at. Mine was running. Pt speaking i was always at top of platoon. I struggled horribly with BRM. I barely qualified. You will probably find this out. Sorry to babble. I loved the experience I got at Fort Benning and Im not exaggerating when I say it changed my life. Good luck HOOAH!
