I'm wondering about this MOS. I know a little about it. Just wondering if anyone can relate their experiences with me. Length of AIT Training and location, deployment rate, ect... I'm not worried about being in harms way, just considering this MOS. My Grandfather was a combat engineer w/ the
40th Combat Engineer Battalion, 45th ID in WW2. He passed away last year at 84. He is a great man and has affected me beyond words. He spent 400 plus days in combat and saw action in N. Africa, Sicily, Naples-Fogia, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Central Europe, Rhine Valley, and Central Europe. It would be an honor to serve in the same capacity.

Hi, I've been a 21B for five years now, it's the best MOS in the military!!!
Basically you act like infantry guys except you blow **** up on the side!!
As far as I know thare are only 3 mos that deal with explosives 21B, EOD, and SF, and the SF guys that deal with C-4 and stuff are generally 21B q'ed.
Sapper school is similar to Ranger school exept it's for Engineers. A well trained Sapper can use C-4 to remove paint off a wall, take the entire wall out, or take out the entire building. So far I've only talked about just plan blowing stuff up, thare is also A&O (assault and obsticle)part of it.
A&O consists of creating and taking out obsticles such as 11row, abitists, ect..
You will more than likely be deployed! Lots of people will tell you about landmines, you will learn alot about them. however this is the deal, Lets say that you get deployed to bosnia to remove land mines, although you will be trained in how to get them out of the ground and disarm them, the locals will do that part! For the most part all you will be doing is securing the landmines, bringing them to a safe place and blowing them up!
Lots of high speed school's availible to a 21B even in the NG, such as Pathfinder, Ranger, Sapper, Air Assault, Airborne..ect.
If your looking for a desk Job 21B is not the way to go!!
SAPPERS FORWARD!!!!!

Hi My Son left for BCT on Jan 16, 2007. He chose 21B and his AIT is also at Leonard Wood following Basic. He has a 3 yr old daughter that I am trying to keep up with while he is away for training. I have so many questions about the training procedures and even more questions about how the DS inspire and motivate new recruits to do what I consider to be the most unimaginable challange of your life. My son is 24yrs old. Although his intentions are good and he makes plans to be a police officer. He has never finished anything in his young adult life. Recently he was evicted from a Low Income Housing facility due to some unruley guests that were visiting with him. He hasn't held a steady job, ever. He displays a lazy and unmotivated nature. Stays up all night and sleeps all day. He has never been in trouble with the law aside from a couple speeding tickets (back when he had a car, but later distroyed due to neglect and misuse). He lacks responsiblity and accountability for his own life. My role as Mother has not been an easy task. I have two other sons, they are productive and independent individuals. I took my son to the local armory for what I call a "WAKE UP INTERVENTION". I am hoping this will change his way of thinking and most urgently change his way of living. Any comments or suggestions are most welcome.

Hello
I haven't had the full military experience as I am waiting to ship to Fort Leonard Wood. I myself was an underachiever in high school and college. Everything has been handed to me. I received many athletic scholarships to play Football and baseball in college. I didn't have to work for it before so I thought it would be the same in college. It took me 2 years on my own in school to finally see the light. I am now 35 ( will be 36 on the 29th). I have 3 young sons and a beautiful (extremely understanding wife). I have been a teacher and football coach for 6 years. I see a lot of myself in some of the students and players I have contact with. It feels good to make that connection with them. I look forward to being a good role model to someone going through basic and AIT. It will be extremely difficult, but for me it is something that I should have done right out of high school. I wish you and your son the best of luck. Some people are late bloomers. You are doing a great thing for him by helping to raise his child. Having children of my own, you are a true hero.
