Question…. What does it mean to be “held over”. My son completed BCT and was supposed to go on to AIT (OSUT). He had failed every PT test during basic, his DS passed him on his last make-up test, even though he shouldn’t have passed, and he graduated BCT. His 1st week in AIT he was given another PT test and failed again. Now he has been released from AIT and is being “held over”. Any answers??

It sounds to me like he is being "recycled'. If you fail your PT test you must start BCT all over again with te next class. I am sorry to hear that he did not pass. Wish him Luck.

If that's the case, he will be dissappointed. I think he's feeling the Guard just isn't for him.

If he has completed Basic Training, he will not need to do it over again. He is only being held over for AIT. He will continue to work on his physical fitness until he can pass a PT test. I'm sure he's discouraged, but he should not give up. Some people have to work harder than others to stay in shape. If he can just focus on improving and staying motivated, he will be fine. I wish him the best.
