Firefighters fight fires. You'll get federally certified in firefighting (great when looking for fulltime jobs on the outside). Its an engineering MOS, although I don't think that really matters other than what branch insignia you wear... but you may get those cool coat buttons...

What do you want to know?

We have one firefighter detachment in California, their commander is an E6...

They are Engineers, oddly enough. In my limited exposure to them, their primary responsibility appears to be airfield firefighting and maybe crash rescue.

That suit *****.

When I was a petroleum fuel guy enlisted we had to do basic familiarization with all that firefighting apparatus, since true Army firefighting units are few and far between.

In Iraq a firefighting engineer company lived down the street. It looked like a firehouse back here on the block. They sat around, cleaned trucks, trained, etc. Few call outs for them over the year.

Firefighter units are far and few. But if you're in Cali you should be busy since they have forestfires as often as they have highspeed car chases.

Do NOT sign up as a Fire Support Specialist!!!!

I couldn't believe that we had a kid show up to AIT thinking it was firefighter school.

Hey on my way into Benning as a Mortarman I was saying to myself "Home of the Infantry...shouldnt I be at artillery school????" (last minute MOS change)
