Join the Guard in another state?

Hey all,

I'm located in Oregon and would like to pursue a job as a 96U, UAV operator, but the units available for that are not located in Oregon.

Am I ineligible, or will I just move to that state after completion of AIT?

You are welcome to join the Guard in whatever state you wish. There's nothing illegal about that. The farther away you live from your unit will make life difficult, and many state-specific benefits may not apply fully to you, but you can still do it. I lived in North Carolina and drilled in Virginia for about seven years.

Well, the closest unit that has 96Us is Idaho. I wouldn't want to just drive there every month, I'd have to move.

Does the National Guard give any help doing that, offer any time after AIT, anything like that?
