If a soldier comes home on leave such as for Christmas does anyone know if the airlines give military personel a discount on airfare?

It never hurts to ask

A funny little story about this...I asked once and the fare they quoted me was actually HIGHER than the fare I received earlier for the same flight... I would not tell you who it was, because they could prbably sue. But it rhymes with U. S. Scare. yep, some military SPECIAL!

That was back in the late '80s and HOPEFULLY things have changed.

Just ask...what can they do, say no?

Airlines have "military rates" that are typically higher then normal ticket prices. I believe this is because the tickets are refundable if you need to change or cancel the flight. (but don't quote me on that). There is ongoing legislation that is attepmting to mandate that airlines offer true "Discounts" to military members. More information on this resolution can be found at:

The whole point of a discount is to save money, not charge you more while telling you that you're getting some special rate!
