Hey guys I did some looking for what it takes to enlist as a E-3 and found that it takes 48 credit hrs. What I was wondering is that I only have 46, and I'm wanting to enlist as a 68W. But I already have my NREMT as a emt-basic, and have been working as a emt for a fire department for about a year. Would my civilian certificates and experience help me with the two credit hrs I need, or should I wait to enlist until I have 48 credit hrs?

Also, as far as the certs, I'm not sure how that factors into it. When I got E-3 at enlistment it was for High School ROTC, which I thought was ridiculous, but if I saw a $20 on the floor, I'd certainly pick it up and pocket that bad boy. Do what you can to get the rank, but if it requires doing a whole bunch of school, I don't think it's worth it just to be a PFC in basic.

I say just enlist. Being an E-3 at enlistment isn't that monumental or that big of a deal. if you come in as an E-2, you'll see E-3 in no time anyway. I enlisted as an E-3 and didn't advance any faster than anyone else who didn't enlist as an E-3. That's just my experience though.
