If a enlisted ARNG soldier encountered a Naval or Marine officer while in uniform, does the soldier salute the Sailor or Marine? I live in a Navy and Marine town and have Naval Officers that live on my street. Just curious?

Yes. A Marine, Sailor, or Soldier junior in rank salute ALL officers Army, Army Guard, Naval, Marine, Air Force etc. Furthermore, a Marine salutes an officer out of uniform when he recongnizes they are an officer. Never indoors except when underarms or when obviously it wouldnt be appropriate: feild, combat, arms full)

For a Marine not to salute an officer is a sin either in blatant disrespect or lack of situational awareness.

For an officer to allow a Soldier, Marine, Airman, or Sailor to walk by and not salute is a failure of leadership!

just out of curiosity, if I am working at my civilian job (cashier at a gas station where I see a lot of guardsmen and active duty in uniform), am i required to salute anyone of higher rank, or is that only while I am in uniform??

only while your in uniform.

However, if you recognize an officer who is not in uniform, and you are, it would not be improper to render a salute to the officer. (Marines are mandated to)

of course, he or she cant render it back, but they will acknowledge it.

Those without the right limb or those with a cast on the right hand or whose right hand is encumbured or injuried such that saluting with the left is appropriate.
