I have several questions about joining the guard.

1. If I sign up now how soon will I be sent to basic training?

2. Do you go to drill before attending basic? I know several people who have and were called reps, but I don't know if everyone attends drill before basic training.

3. Can you join the national guard before you graduate high school? I will be graduating in May of 2007.

4. Are you sent to specific locations for basic training depending on you MOS? I am interested in becoming an MP.

5. Are you assigned to the unit closest to your home location or where you are needed? I live in a town with an MP unit and was wondering if that would be where I would be assigned.

Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm 98% sure on these....

1. You can choose your ship date, up to 365 days after signing.

2. Depends on your ship date. If you sign up and go to BCT in Feb, then you would go to weekends, for example.

3. You can join before you graduate, BUT...you either have to be 18 already and sign yourself, or if under 18, you need parental consent.

4. MP is at Ft Leonardwood in Missouri.

5. You will go where there is vacancy. If there are MP positions available in your state, you will get the job. Where you go for your unit also depends on available slots. There is an MP unit about 30 minutes from me, but it's full..so if I were to pick that as my MOS, I would end up having to go to the next closest unit, which is nearly 2 hours away.
