I'm 22 years old, live in Norman, Oklahoma and I just joined the guard yesterday as a 91w. I wanted to go out of state for basic training but am having to go to ft. sill for my basic. Is there anyway I would be able to go somewhere else for my basic? I would even be willing to wait longer than my original ship date.

Why would you care? One BCT site is as good as another. It's not like you'll have much sightseeing time, and any other BCT post will be attached to a town just as monochromatic as Lawton.

If you wish, you can raise the issue with your Recruiter and MEPS Guidance Counselor, but personally I don't see what's the difference.

So . . . why did you join the OK Guard if you want to get out of OK? WHy not the regular Army?

Dont worry about basic, when you are there you dont leave and you wouldnt even realise you were still in state, its totaly different, but the good thing is you will be spending a long time in texas for AIT, so you will be getting that experience of out of state that you want. Dont worry drive on.

The weather in Oklahoma is the same as everywhere else in the world. Except it all happens in one day.
