I am currently on Active duty in the Navy with 9 years in and one to go. I want to stay full time military but want to be stationed in New Jersey for the rest of my career. I am interested in full time guard and was wondering how it works. I am an E5 in the Navy, there is no matching MO in the army. I have LE experience and combat experience. I am deploying to Iraq in 3 weeks for another tour. Can I enlist into the guard while I am there? Am I eligible for a bonus? Can I choose a MO or is it needs of the Army National Guard? Can I still retire after 20? Can I choose a unit or location in the state of choice? Even know I have an MO that does not match one in the Army is it possible to keep rank? Do I need to go through army training even know I have gone through the IA (individual augmentee) training with the army at Ft. Jackson?
I know there are a lot of questions but I would like to know my options for the future before I leave for the sandbox. THANKS!

i recently joined the guard im prior navy also i too had a rate that didnt have an equivalent mos and simply cose one i wa interested in. had to take the asvab again as it had been more than 5 years, you'll have to be discharged from the navy before you can join, as far as active guard(agr) you'll have to check with your state to see whats available. im in phoenix az so i applied for the border mission this is adsw wich means im on orders as long as theirs money for the mission. you'll probably have to go to warrior transition course (wtc) its 6 weeks long 1 in ft. sill ok processing 2.5 in santa fe nm. that ****** and 2.5 at white sands missle range nm this was great. hope this helps you, i just got back from wtc its all prior service mostly air force and navy learning the army way. good luck spc. roberts
