I enlisted in the college first program on 9/12/2006. I recently got interested in rotc in college. What would I have to do to get into that and get the scholarships at this point? I am 25 and have three kids if it matters. thanks for the help.

Speak to your college's ROTC enrollment officer. You must first determine eligibility for ROTC. Also ask about Dedicated Army National Guard scholarships. There are awards available for two and three yeasr, and if you are eligible you are highly likely to get an award.

Talk to your schools ROTC department. I would look into the SMP program. You get the MOST amount of money possible for school

I am going to meet with the rotc recruiter this week. What I want to know is if you go into rotc do you still have to go to bct/ait? I enlisted last month as 11b and will be going to Airborne school in march 2007. Would it be better for me to go to bct first then rotc or rotc first then bct? Thanks

BCT/AIT is not required for SMP service. Personally, I recommend attending BCT first, and then contracting ROTC. Ensure you speak to your ROTC cadre about ARNG scholarships.

I would also recommend that you attend BCT before enrolling in ROTC. It will give you perspective of an enlisted person, and help top make you an even better leader in ROTC. That is what I did, and I feel like I have more of an edge at ROTC. AFterall, in ROTC commissioning is based on OML's... the more high speed you are the better the chance you will get your branch of choice!

I agree with the Major that the scholarship offered through the ROTC program for cadets who want to stay in the National Guard is one of the best routes. I recieved one of these scholarship while in ROTC. You have to serve as an SMP cadet through a guard unit. If you have you are more than welcome to email me?
